Woman receiving facial acupuncture with fine needles placed on her face

Red Light Facial Acupuncture
Facial Acupuncture & Red Light Therapy in Victoria, BC

At Aesthetics at Juniper, red light facial acupuncture combines facial acupuncture with red light therapy in an appointment tailored to your skin concerns and health history.

Whether you’re exploring care for age-related skin changes or are curious about facial acupuncture, your practitioner will explain the approach, assess suitability, and help you understand what you can realistically expect.

What Is Red Light Facial Acupuncture?

This service brings together two treatment approaches:

Facial Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture involves placing fine, sterile, single-use needles at selected points on the face. Additional acupuncture points elsewhere on the body may be included based on your assessment and treatment plan.

Facial acupuncture differs from microneedling: it uses individually placed needles rather than a device that creates multiple controlled micro-injuries across an area of skin.

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy exposes the skin to selected wavelengths of light without using ultraviolet light. Your practitioner will explain the device used, appropriate precautions, and how it is incorporated into your appointment.

How Does It Work?

Red Light Therapy

Red light can influence cellular activity through a process called photobiomodulation. Researchers are studying how this affects cellular energy production, signalling, and fibroblasts—the cells involved in producing collagen.

Some clinical studies have reported improvements in skin texture, fine lines, and measures of collagen density. Outcomes depend on the wavelength, dose, treatment schedule, and device used. Results vary between individuals.

Facial Acupuncture

Acupuncture needles stimulate local tissues and sensory nerves. Researchers have proposed that changes in local circulation and connective-tissue signalling may contribute to its effects.

Small studies have explored facial acupuncture for skin elasticity and facial lines, but the evidence is still emerging. Results vary between individuals.

Combining the Two Approaches

This appointment incorporates both approaches into an individualized treatment plan.

An Individualized Approach to Skin Health

Your consultation may include discussion of fine lines, changes in skin texture, firmness, and elasticity, alongside your broader skin health.

Your practitioner will consider your concerns, preferences, health history, and current skincare routine before recommending whether to proceed. A consultation does not commit you to treatment.

What to Expect

Before Treatment

Your practitioner will review your health history, medications, skincare products, and recent aesthetic procedures. You’ll have time to discuss your goals, potential benefits, limitations, risks, alternatives, and fees.

During Your Appointment

Fine acupuncture needles are placed at selected points, and red light therapy is incorporated according to your treatment plan. Your practitioner will explain positioning, eye protection, and what sensations you may experience.

After Treatment

You will receive relevant aftercare instructions and guidance on follow-up. Temporary tenderness, pinpoint bleeding, or bruising can occur with acupuncture. Red light therapy may cause irritation or redness in some people.

Contact the clinic if you have questions or concerns following your appointment.

Is This Treatment Suitable for Me?

Treatment is not appropriate for everyone. Please tell your practitioner about:

  • Medications or conditions that increase sensitivity to light.

  • Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medications.

  • Active skin infections, irritated skin, or wounds.

  • Recent injectable treatments, microneedling, peels, or other facial procedures.

  • Pregnancy, relevant eye conditions, or other health concerns.

Your practitioner will assess whether to proceed, modify the treatment, or recommend another option.

Common Questions

How many appointments will I need?

Recommendations depend on your assessment, preferences, and response. Your practitioner will discuss a proposed plan rather than recommend the same schedule for everyone.

Is there downtime?

You may be able to resume usual activities after your appointment, but temporary redness, tenderness, or bruising can occur. Consider this when booking before an important event.

Can I combine this with other aesthetic treatments?

Tell your practitioner about recent or planned procedures. They will discuss appropriate timing and whether combining treatments is suitable for you.
